With this new release of Scapa TPP for Remedy we are aiming to ensure that we continue to provide the best return on your investment in, and the most complete coverage of, BMC Software®’s Remedy® Action Request System® (Remedy) and IT Service Management™ (ITSM) Suite. How do we do this? By focusing our efforts on Remedy developments and, more importantly, on what our customers and partners have been requesting.

  • Improved testing of BMC Remedy ITSM Suite

The creation and structure of tests including custom support for ITSM Back Channel calls, along with the analysis of these, have been simplified allowing tests to be created in a matter of minutes.

  • Increased support for Remedy User Tool application deployment (BMC Remedy AR System APIs) and custom applications
  • New and improved support for Remedy technology (e.g. Flashboards) as well as updates to other technology (e.g. SOAP, web services, customised extensions to Remedy and ITSM suite etc…)

Case Study 1 – IT Consultancy Testing Mid-Tier

The Business Problem: Complete performance and reliability testing of a BMC Software ITSM Suite system

This project was undertaken for a leading Information and Communication Technologies Consulting company, employing highly-skilled consultants based in offices across EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) providing effective, mission-critical systems to a wide-range of clients. One such critical system, a BMC Software IT Service Management (ITSM) Suite application utilizing the mid-tier of an Action Request System® or Remedy® system, required testing prior to being evaluated by a prospective client.

Therefore, in a very short timeframe, the ICT consulting company wanted to ensure that:

a) the entire system from client to server, including the mid-tier, could be tested

b) any underlying system issues could be pinpointed and rooted out before the system’s capabilities were demonstrated to their client,

c) performance levels were optimized and the system was stable.

The Solution: Scapa TPP, the professionals’ load testing and capacity planning tool of choice.

The consulting company needed to find a testing solution that would help them demonstrate the capabilities of the system under proposal to a prospective client. They needed to be sure the testing solution was credible and effective and so they began to look around for a tool and a company that would be able to test the performance and stability of their systems – in particular this ITSM and Remedy-based system – quickly and thoroughly. Due to our proven expertise in testing Remedy and ITSM-based systems, Scapa Technologies was invited to undertake a Proof of Concept (PoC).

Upon the successful completion of the initial PoC, Scapa Technologies consultants were also requested to build and run some significant tests that would clearly show how well the new system would perform for their client. Throughout the process – which only took a matter of days – Scapa consultants ably demonstrated the capabilities of Scapa TPP in pinpointing actual and potential system issues, including configuration issues, allowing the ICT consulting company time to make improvements to their system prior to commencing their own PoC.

The ICT consulting company did not waste time in undertaking what they knew to be essential testing, allowing unforeseen issues to be pinpointed and improvements to be made to their system in a timely manner. The company was able to take their system to their prospective client in the sound knowledge that there were no underlying performance or stability issues that would become showstoppers. Case Study 2 – SaaS Performance Ensured in 3 days – IT Solutions Provider

The Business Problem: Last minute sanity check before ITSM Suite system deployment

This project was undertaken for a company that is a global leader in developing and implementing smart, technology-enabled solutions for their clients. One of these solutions is to provide a hosted BMC Software ITSM Suite-based system, where a number of their clients would use the “software as a service”, or “SaaS”. However, when the performance of this service began to deteriorate for one of their clients, the company decided that it needed to upgrade the underlying Remedy ITSM software and ensure they understood where any issues lay and where performance improvements could be made. It wanted to:

a) benchmark the system to measure its health,

b) estimate the capacity of the system and

c) ensure that performance levels were improved and optimized.

The company needed find a testing solution to help them understand the current limitations of the system and how to measure the required improvements. A common misunderstanding is that a testing project such as this will take a lot of time to undertake from start to finish. In reality, the Scapa consultant managed to get access to the system, create, build and run the tests and finally analyze the results in one weekend. A complete testing project in three days. In that time, the tests revealed a number of system limitations, including a significantly slow link to a specific engine, and a comprehensive report covering system analysis from end-to-end, client to server, including the mid-tier, was produced.
