Repeat Cycle Test

Why: Repeat cycle tests can identify whether behavior seen in a prior test run is symptomatic of expected system performance. Often, rerunning a test at a different time of day can show a different performance characteristics and signatures, evident in the scalability graph produced by Scapa TPP as the system may be processing a different number of background or batch transactions. The number of concurrent real users, and a changed volume of data can also have a detrimental or, at times, catastrophic impact on performance differences. Repeat cycle testing enables you to answer questions, such as:

What impact will a batch transaction have on the users on the system?
What impact will data migration or data archiving have on the system if undertaken whilst users are on the system?

Repeat cycle testing enables you to quantify and compare the performance, capacity and reliability implications, related to known ad-hoc time based events, on your system.

Scope: A soak test or stress test will be rerun with Scapa TPP, with as near identical conditions as possible, and result sets will be monitored for significant differences.

Outcome: The Scapa Technologies professional services report will provide an understanding of similar load profiles being applied to the system at different times of the day or week. This could lead to recommendations on further areas of investigation.

Optimum time to run: As a follow-up to an already completed test cycle, these repeat tests should ideally be undertaken at different times based on scheduled system processes prior to deployment, before and after upgrades, before and after migration, before and after patching and frequently on the production systems (read only transitions) during out-of-hours.
